Southwest/Mexicantown is one of the most dense and vibrant areas of Detroit. Ford Motor Company’s recent purchase of Michigan Central Station has only increased the neighborhood’s desirability for investors and owner-occupants alike. Mexicantown’s many vibrantly-painted commercial buildings are home to Honeybee Market and countless restaurants and bars. The residential architecture ranges from apartment buildings, townhouse-style terraces, oversized Victorians and Tudors, and colorful shotgun homes. In March, a $16 million mixed-use development was announced by the Strategic Neighborhood Fund, including 60 new apartments, 5000 square feet of retail, and 40 parking spaces. Clark Park, a 50 acre park that serves as the centerpiece of Southwest, provides a playground, hockey rink, and walking trails. The addition of a splash pad and other amenities is planned as part of the greater development of the West Vernor corridor.
